What are sticky roles in Discord?
Sticky roles are persistent member roles that are saved when a user leaves and reapplied when that user rejoins. They are useful for community access roles, language roles, interest groups, supporter roles, and other roles that should survive a temporary departure. Sticky roles are different from Discord auto roles. Auto roles give the same onboarding roles to every new member. Sticky roles restore the returning member’s own previous roles. How to set up a Discord sticky roles bot
1
Invite Scrump and check permissions
Add Scrump to the server and grant Manage Server and Manage Roles. Move the Scrump bot role above the roles it should restore.
2
Enable role persistence
Run
/sticky-roles enable in the server, or open Sticky roles in the Scrump dashboard and turn it on.3
Exclude temporary Discord roles
On Plus or Pro, run
/sticky-roles block-role add role: for roles such as event access, verification, muted, or temporary staff roles. You can manage the complete list in the dashboard.4
Test a returning account
Have a test member leave and rejoin with the same Discord account. Scrump restores eligible roles shortly after Discord reports the join.
Best uses for sticky Discord roles
Searchers often look for a Discord bot that keeps roles after leaving, a role persistence bot, or a rejoin role restoration bot. Sticky roles work well for:- Community access and verified-member roles.
- Language, region, and interest roles.
- Supporter or subscriber roles that are still valid.
- Alumni, contributor, and returning-member roles.
Discord sticky role limits by plan
Scrump keeps sticky restoration available on every plan. Blocked-role exclusions are a paid configuration control:
The feature itself remains opt-in. A downgrade does not silently turn sticky restoration off, but Free servers cannot add or edit blocked roles until a paid plan is active.
Why Discord roles may not come back
Role persistence depends on Discord permissions and role hierarchy. Scrump skips roles that were deleted, are managed by an integration, are explicitly blocked, or sit above the bot’s highest role. Check the following before troubleshooting the command:- Scrump has Manage Roles in the server.
- The Scrump role is above the role to restore.
- The member returned with the same Discord account.
- Sticky roles is still enabled.
- The role is not a blocked temporary role.
