Discord Sticky Roles

Scrump sticky roles is a Discord role persistence feature. When it is enabled, Scrump records a member’s roles when they leave your server and restores the roles that still exist when that same member rejoins.

Sticky roles is disabled by default and requires Manage Server and Manage Roles permission. Scrump also needs its bot role above every role it should restore.

Enable Discord sticky roles

Run the enable command from a server-management channel:

/sticky-roles enable

To turn the feature off later, run:

/sticky-roles disable

You can also open the Sticky roles page in the Scrump server dashboard and switch Enable sticky roles on or off. The dashboard saves the same server setting as the slash commands.

Block roles from being restored

Some roles should never come back automatically, such as temporary event roles, verification roles, muted roles, or staff roles. Plus and Pro servers can add those roles to the sticky-role blocklist:

/sticky-roles block-role add role: @Temporary Event
/sticky-roles block-role remove role: @Temporary Event
/sticky-roles block-role list

The dashboard has a multi-select control for the same blocklist. Saving the dashboard form replaces the complete list, so remove a role from the selection when it should become sticky again.

Sticky role plan limits

Plan	Blocked roles
Free	Sticky roles are available, but blocked-role configuration is not included
Plus	Up to 5 blocked roles
Pro	Unlimited blocked roles

If a server downgrades, existing blocked roles remain respected. Free servers cannot add new blocked roles until Plus or Pro is active.

How role restoration works

Scrump saves role IDs, not role names, when a member leaves. On rejoin it checks each saved role and skips it when:

The role was deleted or no longer belongs to the server.
The role is managed by a Discord integration.
The role is the server’s @everyone role.
The role is in the blocked-role list.
Scrump cannot assign it because of Discord role hierarchy or Manage Roles permission.

Role restoration is idempotent. A reconnect or duplicate Discord event will not create duplicate roles, and a new leave event records the member’s current roles again.

Sticky roles troubleshooting

If a member’s roles are not restored, check that:

Sticky roles is enabled with /sticky-roles block-role list or in the dashboard.
Scrump has Manage Roles permission.
Scrump’s bot role is above the missing role in Server Settings → Roles.
The role is not managed, deleted, or listed as a blocked role.
The member rejoined the same Discord server with the same account.

Scrump does not restore roles while the feature is disabled, and it cannot restore a role that Discord no longer allows the bot to manage.
